The Challenger League got its start several years ago as a tee-ball division of the Johnston Little League. The joy and excitement of these athletes encouraged the organizers to offer other sporting activities. In addition to baseball, the League now offers indoor soccer and basketball as well as special events like awards parties, picnics and bowling outings.
Challenger League kids love to have fun and enjoy playing these sports. Games are a family event, with parents and siblings providing assistance when needed. The families enjoy spending this time together and are grateful for the opportunity to play sports. What a rewarding experience it is to see the thrill and pride in the athletes' eyes when they hit the ball, score a goal or make a basket!
In 1999, the parents of Challenger League athletes voted to form an Iowa 501c3 non-profit corporation to facilitate expansion of the program and provide an avenue for fundraising. All contributions are tax deductible and are used for the benefit of the children.
